State of the Offseason Address...
By Stevil, December 4th, 2020
This will be quick and to the (bullet) points...
- We were a little surprised to see David Dahl get non-tendered. With Seattle likely needing to take it easy with Haniger, and Dahl likely needing to be handled carefully as well, we see the fit for a part-time outfielder that would probably DH most nights.
- Dahl wasn't the only player non-tendered that interests us. Two more have our attention: Matt Wisler and Archie Bradley.
- Trevor May got paid considerably more than we anticipated. He probably got paid more than anyone anticipated. His payday makes Wisler and Bradley more interesting.
- We're still interested in Trevor Rosenthal and Sean Doolittle. We're also still interested in Jake Lamb.
- We're not interested in a Blake Snell acquisition, so don't e-mail us with your Trammell and _________ could-get-it-done suggestions. You can ramble your nonsense on Twitter.
- Cesar Hernandez is the most interesting of the available free agent second baseman, but if a stopgap infielder is in the cards, we'd prefer to see a lefty-swingin' corner infielder.
- The Gold Gloves were great. We still think Crawford has to do more offensively to justify a regular role in 2022 and Seattle should be prepared to start 2021 with White in Tacoma for 2-4 months.
- There is an argument for reacquiring James Paxton and we don't think signing two starting pitchers would be overkill (ha!). We simply don't anticipate seeing two starters being signed. We'd love to be wrong.
- Die Toten Hosen is currently getting the most play-time at HVH headquarters. German songs about drinking are fitting for the holiday season.
